Transcriptable prioritizesclear audio. Most of this work is done by the equalizer. With Transcriptable’s equalizer, you can tailer your audio files and make each onejust right for maximum audio clarity.

How does it work?

There are five equalizer presets, each for a different type of audio. Don’t know how to work an equalizer? We’ve set it all up for you. The settings are:

Default

No special audio tweaks. It’s the audio exactly as it was recorded, for better or worse.

Female voice

Voice clarity occurs in a different range for women than it does for men. The female voice preset is optimized for audio files primarily featuringa woman’s voice. This setting brings out frequencies that are common to women’s voices, and removes any “screeches” that cheap microphones can distort when recording voices with a higher pitch.

Male voice

Use the male voice equalizer preset when maximum audio quality is needed for audio files dominated by men’s voices. This setting removes some higher frequencies and cuts out lower frequencies that can make it hard to distinguishlower voices. Men with drawls or certain accents oftensound muddled with less-than-perfect recordings. The male voice preset sharpens and clarifies the most common male-voice frequencies, enhancing the fidelity of the audio.

Reduce low or rumbling noise

Clients are usually not audio experts, so often you’ll receive audio files in which recording devices have been placed next to an air conditioning unit, or on a table that picks up vibrations. For these unfortunate cases, Transcriptable offers the low rumbling preset with a “high pass” filter, whichonly allows higher frequencies to pass through. The low rumbling preset extractssounds that it thinks are human voices. In very rare circumstances, it can remove a bit of sound from very low male voices.

Reduce high or shrill noise

The opposite of the rumbling preset, use the reduce high or shrill noise preset if the audio is screeching or sounds like an experiment to see how quickly you can go deaf. It removes high frequencies that probably aren’t human, and emphasizes male and female voice ranges a bit for easier transcribing. In very rare cases, it may remove some audio, especially if a person with an unusually high-pitched voice is singing or shouts loudly enough to distort the audio.

Custom

Are you an audio pro? Do you know exactly what kind of equalizer settings you need? If so, feel free to ignore the presets and do your own customization. Adjust up to five bands and gain to coax out the sweetest, clearest audio from your files. This setting is only meant for people that know what they’re doing, though, so unless you’re a real expert, we recommend sticking to the presets.
